Meet LA Fit Ambassador Rebecca Johns

Meet our LA Fit Ambassador, Channel 9 TV presenter Rebecca Johns.

You’ve probably seen Rebecca Johns on Channel 9 news. She’s a gifted journalist, winning the WA Journalist of the year in 2017, and along with her work on Channel 9, she has featured on Western Australian channels like Network Ten, GWN7 and WIN.

Rebecca is also a presenter on Channel 9’s Getaway series so she’s always travelling. How she has time to keep on top of her fitness, we don’t know! But she’s definitely dedicated.

We spoke to Rebecca about balancing life and work, and what she gets out of doing Megaformer at LA Fit.

You’ve been a journalist for almost 10 years! What’s been some of your top moments?

There have been many moments in my career as a journalist where I’ve had to stop and pinch myself – “is this real life?”. I get to experience a lot of things which an average person would never in a lifetime. From being caught in the centre of bushfires and cyclones, to covering devastating mass murders alongside police, to swimming with majestic Humpback Whales off WA’s coast. The job is ever changing, every single day is different – and that is the best part about it.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love to travel so being told I have less than an hour to grab my “away bag” and get to the airport to fly to a random country town to cover breaking news definitely gets the adrenaline pumping! It’s also pretty special to be able to travel to beautiful locations across the state and experience local activities like snorkelling, helicopter tours and quad biking through sand dunes – all in the name of work! In the years I’ve been a TV reporter/presenter, I have travelled to just about every random country town you can think of in WA. You name it – I’ve likely been there!

You seem to have a very busy schedule, and you travel a lot. How do you make self-care a priority?

Being a journalist is a 24-hour job, because the news cycle/TV never sleeps. You’re always on edge waiting for the next big story, so it is super important to try your hardest to find a bit of “me time”. My favourite way to switch off is to work out. It allows me to shut off my mind and focus on my body. That’s why I love Megaformer, it helps me to do just that – even if it is for just for 45 minutes.

What do you like to do when you’re chilling out?

I love to hit the gym (a mix of Megaformer and Boxing), spend time with my family and friends, hit the beach and of course, eat yummy food! Everybody lives such busy lives these days, and I believe there is no better feeling than breaking a sweat at the gym, going for a refreshing dip in the ocean, and just being present with your family and friends while having a good laugh and eating delicious food!

Have you always been into fitness?

I have always been extremely active – gymnastics, ballet, dancing, boxing, surfing (trying to anyway), swimming, the lot! There came a time in my career where I became so focussed on work, it consumed my life and I forgot about balance. In the last 12 months, I have really tried to focus on regaining that healthy work/life balance, and since reintroducing regular exercise into my routine, I have been a far happier and healthier person.

You love Megaformer. What do you enjoy most about it?

I love that in 45 minutes, you can get in a complete, full body workout. No matter how many sessions I do a week, I always pull up sore the next day – and I love it! It makes me feel like I have pushed my body to the limit (in a good way) and it lures me back time and time again. Unlike a gym, I always feel safe in class too which is really important for me. With limited machines, it gives the instructors time to watch everyones technique, so I feel at ease knowing I am doing my workout correctly and not damaging my body.

Have you got a favourite Megaformer move?

Oh that’s a tough one! It would have to be a mix of Bungee Kicks (to firm the butt), Standing Inner Thigh (to rediscover my elusive thigh gap) and Teaser (just because I love the burn)!

Want to try a Megaformer class? You won’t regret it. Book in for a class today.
